Meet the Author
Hello I’m Jess,
A mother of 2 wild little kiddos, a fiancé, a teacher and now a budding children’s author. We are lucky to live on a family property in the small Queensland town of Roma (5ookm west of Brisbane). Roma runs deep in our blood, with our family living here for 6 generations, my grandmother’s name was Roma (believe it or not). I am a small-town girl with a love of the bush and this is where the idea began! Books from the Bush. In a world of worries my dream is to write children’s stories embodying the Aussie spirit and humour. My goal is to create stories for our children and students to bond together and foster the love of reading.
As a parent, I like many feel the pressures of being a parent in the modern world. Are the kids meeting their milestones? Should they be doing a bush wee down the main street? Is it possible that my son will morph into a peanut butter sandwich if he consumes another? Amongst the mental load and the chaos, I have always found turning to books to be a lifesaver. It has always been a great way to bond with my children, help regulate emotions and foster a love of reading.
As a primary school teacher, I have always had deep passion for teaching reading and writing. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a child’s ideas come to life through the art of storytelling and writing. Embedding the love of reading in my students has always been a priority. Captivating students with comical stories has always been a favourite during my career.

Books from the Bush is my publishing imprint that captures the essence of outback Australia. It’s inspired from living in the bush to captivate its audience through storytelling and a good old laugh. The concept of idioms is a family trait that has always been a part of my identity. If you are in ear shot of me, I can guarantee that you will hear one fly out of my mouth! I’ll leave it at that, or we will be here until the cows come home!
